Steak n’ veggies

Steak is definitely a bit of a treat, especially when you’re on a budget! If you shop from local producers and markets, you’ll find you can get some fairly cheap cuts, its all about shopping around and keeping it local.

Serves 1


-1 steak (whichever cut you prefer)

-A handful of breadcrumbs

-A tablespoon of pepper

-A teaspoon of salt

-A teaspoon of chopped chilli (Or chilli flakes)

-A teaspoon of garlic powder

-A handful of new potatoes

-Half a leek

-A handful of spinach

-A handful of sugar snap peas


  1. Chop the leeks, potatoes and peas into chunks. Pop them, along with the spinach, into a medium sizes saucepan and cover with boiling water. Leave them to boil for around 10-15 mins until you can put a fork through the potatoes easily.
  2. Mix the breadcrumbs, pepper, salt, chilli and garlic powder in a bowl and rub into the steak on both sides.
  3. Turn the grill onto a medium heat and grill for between 3-8 mins depending on how rare or well done you like it.
  4. Drain the veggies and pop on the plate next to the steak. That’s dinner ready to go!
